Keeping your content current and fresh

Image of calendar week plannerThe main homepage area of your charity website takes preference to other pages within your website for SEO, so if you have widgets (small window areas that link through to other areas of your website) on your homepage, these are ideal to update regularly.

We have created a list of items which you may wish to include in your weekly or monthly website updates for you to consider incorporating into your website:

Latest News

If you have a latest news blog then try to create fresh news weekly - this could be:

  • New product or service provided by your charity
  • New Volunteer
  • New Employee
  • New Branch
  • Key results achieved
  • New Events
  • Event Success
  • What happening within the Charity

Twitter or Facebook Feeds

Having your Charity Twitter or Facebook widget feed on your homepage can benefit your website.  If you post regularly in to Twitter and Facebook then your website will automatically be updated by those feeds.

Ideas for tweeting and posting:

  • Say thank you
  • Ask for volunteers
  • Announce achievements
  • Promote events
  • Report successes
  • Introduce new employees

When posting on Twitter or Facebook don’t forget to include a link to your website, or pages of your website which are relevant to the postings.

Events and Calendar

Keep your Calendar or What’s On updated.  You might include all your charity events, especially those where people can attend and get involved in volunteering, fund raising and supporting.

Ideas for listing in your calendar:

  • Your own charity events
  • Other charities events
  • New offices/shops opening
  • Exhibitions which might be of interest
  • Sector events
  • Training days

When posting events into your calendar link your event to a page within your website or an external website which gives more information about the event or linking to a registration form.

Why bother?

Keeping your website current will reward your charity.  It will let your viewers know that your charity stays on top of the latest information available for them, whether it be sector news or services available for them - it will encourage them to keep returning to your charity website becoming loyal followers.  Also content entered regularly adds a big boost to your SEO (Search Engine Optimisation).

Why not set yourself a weekly check list of what's new and needs to be added to your website.
